"You're off the air"

Hello to you all...

I was doing a good job updating my blog almost daily - that was until i got a bloody virus!!
Or should I say, 800+ viruses.
Apparently Nortons didn't detect them and it's completely ruined my hard drive.

So I'm at Roz's house checking my e-mails and thought i'd better check in and say hi.

Scott flew out yesterday and the kids and i are planning on a pretty quiet weekend, and off to visit Amie on Sunday, for the day.

I feel like a limb has been cut off not having the internet, it's funny how that is - once upon a time, there was not internet, and we coped just fine!

I should be "back on the air" either today or Monday.
I have a few piccies to post and i'll get some more on the weekend... Stay tuned..

Love to you all.

Jen, something similar happened to my laptop last year and I cursed my (up to date) virus protection too. That is until someone told me to scan for Spyware. Completely different to viruses. Even plain old pages like yahoo have spyware. Hard to explain but I found a free program called "Spy bot" on www.Downloads.com and I run it regularly. Its brilliant and removes all that crap.

The problem with computer based email programs like outlook is, once the email has been sent to you it isnt sitting in the atmosphere somewhere, it has already downloaded onto your computer. Sitting there waiting for you to open it (viruses and all).

Non computer based email programs like hotmail, g mail and yahoo keep all the received emails in cyber space. They haven't nd dont download onto your computer unless you chose to download a file or open a dodgy email.

Another bit of advice, remove the 'reading pane' from outlook express. Make it so you actually have to click the email to read it.

Even without opening an actual email, once the reading pane shows a preview of the email, the whole email is as good as downloaded into your system. Viruses and all.

The new yahoo mail opens like outlook express and is super quick (and you never have to make a new email address if you change internet providers) but the BIGGEST thing is, it scans the email before it will allow it to open.

The other cool thing with new yahoo is, you can leave the page open on your computer and it automatically checks for new emails (like outlook but without downloading them onto your computer).

Finally - NOW you know why I hate people sending me 'forwards and jokes'.

Good luck doll.

Thanks Beck,

Funny you should say that... My PC just got dropped off and that is exactly what the dude said "Spyware".
So I have SpyBot installed.
What are you - a mindreader or what??
LOL

Oh, I forgot to write in my post - Everyone, please don't send me any more jokes!

Do do do do....

Spybot rocks. You can block sites so they cant track you which is cool.

Glad to be a psychic healer.

LOL

Also Jen, a great (and free) antivirus is AVG. I think the web address is avg.com. I haven't had any problems and have been using it for a year or so now.... but then... now you've made me wonder if my computer is full of spyware... EEEKEKkeeekk!
